A distribution transformer-often abbreviated as "dist-trans"-is a static electrical device within a power distribution system that transmits AC electrical energy by transforming AC voltage and current based on the principle of electromagnetic induction. In some regions, power transformers with voltage ratings below 35 kV (most commonly 10 kV and below) are classified as distribution transformers.
The sites where these transformers are installed are known as substations. Distribution transformers are typically installed either on poles or on ground-level pads outdoors. This text provides a detailed overview of their installation methods, installation precautions, power supply and distribution configurations, capacity selection, and operation and maintenance.
